New Jersey vs. TLO was case that took place in 1985. A girl with the initials TLO was caught smoking at school. So, the school searched her purse to see if she had drugs. Apparently she had more than just cigarretes. TLO had marijuana, cigarretes, and pipes. TLO said that the school wasn't allowed to search her purse and that goes against the 4th amendment. So, TLO took it to the Supreme Court. The ruling went in favor for the school 6-3. They, said the school has the right to search purses because they need to protect kids of the school. The impact of this case is schools have the right to search personal property if they need to.
The impact it had on me is that I feel more safe in schools because I know if there are drugs in our school the school will search property to protect schools from whatever is harmful.
Although your opinion is defended strong, I believe that whatever was in her purse was her business and that the school needs a warant if they plan on searching her
ReplyDeleteI really thought this case was importaqnt. However, Unlike surria, i believe that The school has a right to search her.
